A friend of mine is asking on how to use the /3GB parameters to fully utilize the memory management of your Windows Server 2003 to support Exchange Server 2003. It's been a while since my last setup and configuration of Exchange Server 2003 (maybe because I am managing Exchange Server 2007, by the way SP1 for Exchange Server 2007 is out).

When I need to get some information related to Microsoft Exchange Server, I always search it first through http://support.microsoft.com website. Yes not Google search. You will get 95% relevant information than searching to Google. Well it's a Microsoft product anyway.

Here's the information I've found on how you can configure your Windows Server 2003 to add the /3GB and /USERVA=3030 parameters.

"After you have installed Windows Server 2003, modify the Boot.ini file, and then add the /3GB and the /USERVA=3030 parameters to the startup line" (2009, Support.Microsoft.com)
For example:
[Boot Loader]
Timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT

[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows Server 2003" /fastdetect /3GB /USERVA=3030

There you go, reset your server and run TASKMGR to see improvement to your Exchange Server 2003. Read here for more information.

Just in case you missed it, here's the video courtesy by CNN.

Maybe GlobeNumber.com domain name will be the "next" trend.
If you are looking for wireless solution, here's one for you. I personally not using it yet but I really like their implementation design and might apply this to work.

The product is "Xirrus Wi-Fi Array integrates 4, 8, 12, 16 or 24 802.11abg+n coupled to a high-gain directional antenna system into a single device along with an onboard multi-gigabit switch, WI-FI controller, firewall, dedicated Wi-Fi threat sensor, and an embedded spectrum analyzer to provide mmore than enough bandwidth, security and control to replace switched Ethernet to the desktop as the primary network connection - providing more coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry on a per device and system basis resulting in 75% fewer devices, power, cabling, switch ports, and installation time than competitive offerings." (2009, Xirrus.com)

I was just looking for a wireless load balance solution and stumbled to this product. I would like to share this to my reader (especially administrators and geeks) to share their knowledge if they already implemented a similar wireless wide-network designs as shown here.

I will keep you posted if I have the chance to implement this in our network.

Thank you,

Wonder why?

You are using your Microsoft Remote Desktop and after installing the service pack 3 (SP3) for your windows operating system it's stopped working. Well, for security reason Microsoft assumed you don't need this service in your workstation and only administrator use it. Some companies are already using Terminal Servers for telecommute or teleworkers to connect to the company resources.

How to fix this problem? This is not a problem, you just need to go back to manage your add-ons and enable the Microsoft RDP Client Control again. Here's how to enable your RDP.
  • In your Microsoft IE browser, click on Tools, Internet Options.

  • In Internet Options, click on Programs tab.

  • Click Manage add-ons.

  • In Manage Add-ons, scroll down till you see the Microsoft RDP Client Control (redist), select it.

  • In Settings, select Enable then click OK to execute changes.

That's all.

For additional questions, please post it here or visit PCLiveSupport.com community.

My Blog URL Address - BLOG.KING.NET

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 1:07 AM 0 comments
This post is not one of the HOW TO article but a small feedback from my readers.

Some of my readers suggested to change my blog URL address to http://blog.king.net to simplify and easy to remember. I agree with this suggestion and it make sense, though it's been years already since I've started using http://my.king.net as my blog URL address.

Well, I guess it can be resolve by creating another URL forwarding using http://blog.king.net to http://my.king.net to accomodate the request. There you go, you can now use http://blog.king.net URL address. I've checked it today and it is now resolving.

Your suggestions and feedback is always welcome here.
Just in case you haven't seen the cartoon image. Here's a copy courtesy by Telegraph.co.uk website and also the article.
"The New York Post has apologised to those offended by an editorial cartoon that critics said was racist because it likened President Barak Obama to a chimpanzee." (2009, Telegraph.co.uk)

In my humble opinion, I've seen worst but this is just a wrong timing or maybe a good timing to create a media buzz. It's up to you to judge.

Update:
I've searched the Internet to see other controversial New York Post Cartoons and I found this one from BlackPlanet.com website titled "NY Post's Sean Delona's Most Offensive Cartoons".

Year 2009 is to keep more cash for your business needs, to maintain your business operations and stay in business. I've read this article from CNN today titled "2009: Keep more cash!" I've got some useful informations for me to consider when filing my tax returns. Though just like other entrepreneurs out there, I have many questions to ask.

Profit from losses:
This is getting interesting when I continue to read the article. You can actually recoup some of the money by executing what's called a net operating loss (NOL) carryback. This is the first time I've learned about this specific tax code.

"Here's how the carryback works. Say you lost $1 million in 2008 after turning a $500,000 profit in each of the previous two years. You carry the loss backward by having your accountant amend your 2007 tax return to offset the entire profit for that year. You would then be due a refund on any federal taxes you paid on that profit - and state taxes in roughly a third of the states. You would still show a loss balance of $500,000, which you could carry back to 2006 and offset your profit for that year as well." (2009, CNN)

You can carry a NOL forward to offset profits for up to 20 years.

Though after reading this example computation, I'm still in the dark side figuring how can I apply this to my business? Who's my accountant HR Block? I'm planning to use Turbo Tax this year tax returns. Woow!

Sometimes, I asked myself why I choosed B.S. Computer Engineering and not Accounting or Financial Management. Well that's another story to tell.

This is a definition of Phishing I've got from wikipedia.org.

"In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular sexual web sites (YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Windows Live Messenger), auction sites (eBay), online banks (Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Chase), online payment processors (PayPal), or IT Administrators (Yahoo, ISPs, corporate) are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. Even when using server authentication, it may require skill to detect that the website is fake. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to fool users, and exploits the poor usability of current web security technologies. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical security measures. A phishing technique was described in detail in 1987, and the first recorded use of the term "phishing" was made in 1996. The term is a variant of fishing, probably influenced byphreaking, and alludes to baits used to "catch" financial information and passwords." (2009, Wikipedia.org)

How to do you minimize exposure to Phishing?
In my humble opinion, you don't actually expose yourself they will find you through public forums, email, newsletters, social networking sites, and other open access websites.

Here's a few tips for you, a practical way (common sense):
  1. Don't post your email to the public forums, community and other related message boards.
  2. When you receive a "phishing" emails, don't click on the link attached to the email. Open a new Internet browser and type the official web address of your bank. For example, if an email is asking you to update your bank profile (account information). Visit your bank official website e.g. http://www.bankofamerica.com/ for BOA, http://www.citicards.com/ for CitiBank, etc.
  3. Similar to no.1, don't post other sensitive information to the public forums e.g. Your phone number, mobile number, home address, etc.

That's what I have right now. Please post your comments for additional information that you would like to share to our readers.

Thank you,

Well it's all planned when we (my family) find out that Jollibee's in Queens New York will open on February 14, 2009. We decided to spend our Valentine's Day driving from Fairfax, Virginia to Queens, New York so we can taste (once again) ChickenJoy, Palabok, Spaghetti, etc. from our very own Filipino foodchain.

This is just the summary of our schedule last weekend:
- 5 hours driving from Fairfax, Virginia to Queens, New York
- 4 hours waiting in line. We chat to our kababayan while waiting.
- 40 minutes getting our foods.
- 5 hours going back to Fairfax, Virginia

That's how we spend our heart day, with a lot of foods from our child hood taste back in Manila, Philippines. I'm proud to be a Filipino.

By the way, visit RandomPage.com (RP) for more pictures from the restaurant.

Ok you're the Network Administrator in your company and they had asked you to create a Mailing Distribution List. For example a mailing list for your HelpDesk support, let's call it as HelpDesk @ King.net. Well, as Network Administrator/Email Administrator you suppose to know it. This is just another technical how to references to guide other Network or Email Administrator out there.

In this example, we are using MS Exchange Server 2007. I need to point this out because the management console is different between MS Exchange Server 2003 and 2007.

Ok, let's begin. Fire up (I mean double click on)  your Exchange Management Console.
  • In Recipient Configuration, select Distribution Group.
  • Right click on Distribution Group to create New Distribution Group.
  • Select New Group, click Next
  • Select Group Type as Distribution
  • Type the Name and Alias e.g. HelpDesk, click Next to complete.
  • Add the user(s) to be member of this distribution list
  • Send a test message and you're done.
Well not yet! By default, MS Exchange Server 2007 policy is requiring that all senders are authenticated. In this case, when someone from outside send you a message. They will receive an email from the Postmaster regarding undeliverable due to Exchange policy.

But if you're senders are all within your organization. It is safe (highly recommended) to requires all senders are authenticated.

How do you disable "Requires that all senders are authenticated" for this specific Mailing Distribution List?

Let's go back to the Exchange Management Console, select the Distribution Group e.g. HelpDesk, click on Properties.
  • In HelpDesk properties, click on Mail Flow Settings tab.
  • Select Message Delivery Restrictions, then click Properties
  • In Message Delivery Restrictions, uncheck "Requires that all senders are authenticated".
  • Click OK to apply your changes.
Now test sending email to your HelpDesk distribution list from your outside email such as Gmail, MSN or Yahoo. This should work now.

SECURITY REMINDER: When you disabled "Requires that all senders are authenticated" you will receive email from outside of your company including unsolicited emails or SPAM. This is only applicable if you have a number of consultants working for your company.

As IT Security person, I don't recommend disabling this feature. I want all exchange users to properly authenticated before they can use the service. As always, consider other best alternative.

If you are shopping for a network monitoring device to check your network activity, temperature, camera motion detection, alerts and other tasks you want to monitor while away or enjoying your vacation. I have the same problem years ago but not anymore and thank you to APC Netbotz product.
"The NetBotz solution is, in essence, an IP-based physical security network, where physical threat data is captured by IP monitoring appliances and then sent, stored and managed -- giving users a worldwide, up-to-the minute view of the physical threat status of their organization, their environment, their assets and their people. Capturing visual data from surveillance level cameras and dangerous ambient information from a wide range of sophisticated sensors, the NetBotz solution sends data securely to appropriate personnel, who then use the information to take quick and immediate action. A web browser gives authorized personnel a consistent, organization-wide view into its NetBotz deployment as well as its physical threat status -- across buildings, borders and boundaries." (2009, Amazon.com)

I configured this network device to send me alert when the room temperature goes below or above my LAN room set range. And also send me alert with picture through the use of Camera Motion detection feature during times that no one in the office. Of course you can configure this device according to your company Information Technology policy.

Check the following products for more details:

I know some other brands that you can use. For my specific needs, monitoring my LAN room, Temperature, capturing photo and sending me alert. This is perfect for me.

Someone also asked me about transporting big folders/files to another media. If CD or DVD is not enough, you can buy a USB Drive up to 8GB in capacity. The last time I checked, for 8GB capacity will cost you $19.99 a piece or cheaper.

I recently acquired a domain name that match my main website (King.net) advertisers, mostly work from home, making money from home, Investing, ways to make money, how to save, etc.

Ok without anymore introduction, the domain name is KissYourBossGoodbye.com. Yes, nothing special but it really match the advertisers in our website. It is a long domain name but it's easy for anyone to remember specially in the work force.

I would like to share this to all my friends out there that having issues with their boss, maybe one of our advertisers will have answers to your questions. Check it out today.
