Conficker April 1st - April Fools Virus

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 11:19 PM 3 comments
When you first bought your computer (workstation) or your laptop, did you set your Automatic Updates to install Microsoft Security Updates daily?

Did you install anti-virus software and download updates daily?

If you have not done it lately, it's highly recommended to download the latest Windows Security Updates and run anti-virus live update for your workstation. This is to minimize risk of exposure, patch vulnerabilty and close known exploit. This coming April 1st, April fools day a virus known as The Conficker Worm will start attacking computers connected to the network and Internet. I don't know the attack pattern, in the past the attacker created a botnet to disabled known website through Destributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attack. The method of attack might be different as they know that most businesses added security measures against this type of attack.
This is the time to run Windows Update, update your antibot software, and update your anti-virus software.

Here's how to check you workstation via Microsoft OneCare online service.
For Windows XP, please use this link:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

For Windows Vista, please use this link:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

To run the online tool, you need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+ browser. I'm not surprise that they don't support Google Chrome or Firefox to run this tool. Click on Full Scan, it will take a while to complete the scan depending on how many files you have in your workstation. Be patient.

After the scan, read the report.

Norton website provide detailed information about The Conficker Worm.

What to do if you are infected? Here's a three (A, B, C) different approach to correct this problem. Click the one appropriate for your workstation.

.ECO - A new waste of money

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 12:51 AM 0 comments
I'm reading one article in Popsci website about the proposal for .ECO domain extension. I share the same personal view with this new extension. It cost me more money to keep my brand.

"The point being: there is no point. These extraneous TLDs -- the proposed ".eco" domain included -- succeed only in confusing users and bilking Web site owners out of an additional $30-$50 each (if they even bother with them at all). In order for ".eco" and similar TLDs to gain widespread acceptance, there needs to be some kind of standardization in the way they're used. For example, if you type in "Google.jobs," you're simply redirected to the Google homepage. But if you type in "CareerBuilder.jobs," you're taken to the section of the CareerBuilder site that deals with employment opportunities specific to the CareerBuilder organization. The latter makes a lot of sense. If users expected to reach the human resources department of a given company by typing in ".jobs" instead of ".com", I think ".jobs" would have a shot at being something people use. Similarly, most sites buy up the ".org" domain just to redirect it to a homepage. This makes ".org" completely meaningless. "Google.org" on the other hand, redirects to a page dedicated to the company's philanthropic initiatives. Again, that makes sense." (2009, Popsci.com)

This is the same problem with .TEL domain extension ( read Whaddya think of .TEL domain extension). I'm not interested so I did not buy my my domain related to my business as it will cost me $$ per year maintenance. I can use http://tel.king.net/ anyway and it will not cost me anything.
This is a continuation of cloud computing blog that was posted here.

To test drive cloud computing services, I need to open an account. To find out if this is good for my personal online backup or for business use only. I need to have an account but I don't need to spend money ($) for evaluation. This is the only reason, I started using Mozy.com free version for my test drive.

I registered and created my account. I have to fill up a simple registration process e.g. entering my email address, type in my password, year of birth and answer few survey questions. Check your email for confirmation, click the link to confirm and ready to download the software to your workstation.

I go to my temp folder, where I downloaded the file for my Vista workstation. Double click on the exe file and click run to install the program to your workstation. It will take a few minutes to complete the install. I continue to click accepting the default install. Click on Finish to launch Mozyhome Configuration Wizard.

You will see a new icon in your status bar. In my laptop, this icon (orange gray color) is located in right-hand corner. Double click on the icon to execute MozyHome Remote Backup. It will prompt that you haven't configure your backup.

Configuration:
- In MozyHome Remote Backup Configuration, click configure.
- Enter your username (email address) and your password.
- Then click Next and wait.
- Choose the encryption key, use Blowfish Key as recommended. Personal Note: The use of encryption is to secure your data.
- Click on Next to continue.
- MozyHome has scanned my computer and recommended to backup my IE Favorites, My Documents, Photos and Images, and Word Processing Documents. I have no way of changing the selection, maybe for the pro version.
- Click on Next to continue.
- Click Start Test.
- Congratulations. Your broadband is fast enough to support remote backup.
- Click Next
- You have the option to calibrate your MozyHome. This is great managing your workstation CPU process. If you don't know about it, just accept default.
- Start your initial backup.

It will automatically backup your workstation if it has been idle for 20 minutes. The restore is can be done through Client Restore, Virtual Drive or Right-Click Restore.

My initial files to backup is only 23Mb.

The tool is really great to have, ready to go for your online backup. Get your free account first here at Mozy.com

Questions un-answer:
- How do you synchronize your data?
- If I have one picture to share, is it possible to use a URL address?

So far so good .. check it out.
I know on top my head Microsoft Live and Google provides software as a service (SaaS) to the public. I am using Google Applications services for my email, calendar, and sharing documents on the fly. Meaning I can share any documents (word, excel and powerpoint) to any users that has email address which almost everybody has one. They can view or edit the document through their web browser in real-time, no need to save on their workstation. This is perfect to anyone always on the go, not leaving any documents in your home pc for later access.

I haven't use Microsoft Live service, I have no idea how this work (maybe one of our readers will share their experience). So, I will introduce Google Apps to you which I am using since beta release. I'm saving my documents, word, excel and powerpoint presentation using my own email address @KING.NET. Sharing these documents to anyone in the world for review or corrections. I can easily remove permission when we finalized the documents. The email services come with powerful anti-spam and anti-virus tools that will protect your communication to your clients. Your email and attachement you send or received are protected 24x7 every hour, every minute. The online calendar is a plus to have in my Google Apps and best of all, it is a FREE service. You don't have to pay monthly recurring fee to use email. You save costs in your IT overhead. If you still not convince, head out to Google Apps website and read more for details.

Read Outsource your Email here for additional article to read.

What other cloud computing services available today?

Amazon.com - http://ews.amazon.com/s3 or Amazon Simple Storage Service

"Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access tot he same highly scalable, reliable, fast, inexpensive data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers." (2009, Amazon.com)

If you are confuse on how they charge their customers, use the AWS Simply Monthly Calculator to get you an estimate.

Mozy.com offer $4.95 per month unlimited backup for personal and non-commercial use. For business use, you need to use the mozypro service. I also recommend that you check the 2GB of 100% free backup space before you decide if the service is right for you. You don't need your credit card to sign-up.

Joyent.com - Scale on demand. Your web infrastructure can be dynamically expanded or reduced within minutes. Offers open protocols, open source solutions, larget Open Solaris installation in the world. Ideals for PHP, Ruby, Python and Java applications. Real static IP Address, real storage and 10TB monthly data transfer. Starting at $45 per month to run your web applications.

ThePlanet.com just announced this week (March 24, 2009) that they are now offering cloud storage solutions. According to the email I've received from them. They are faster transfer speeds more than twice as fast as Amazon S3 and simplier pricing. They have to emphasize simplier pricing as they probably notice it from Amazon S3. I have problem of understanding the pricing of Amazon S3 cloud computing solutions when I checked their service.

The only truly global cloud, while most cloud storage is based in one or two locations. The Planet gives you the security of global infrastructure minimizing the risks of outages to your business.

If you knew or currently using cloud storage solutions, please share your experience with us. Thank you in advance.

I managed my personal and business domain names. I bought some domains to market my IT Consulting Services e.g. http://www.computernetworksupport.com/ for example. This is a long domain name but directly defining what I can provide to a prospective customers.

Last Tuesday March 24, 2009 Telnic.org open the registration to the public. Yes everyone can register .TEL domain extension for under $10 per year. I hope I can get king.tel but Carol Bucca from NJ registered the domain during land-rush for 3 years for at least $300. According to the whois record, king.tel was registered last March 23 a day before the public launch.

Launch Information

  • Sunrise - registrations reserved for trademark owners 3 December 2008 - 2 February 2009
  • Landrush - registrations open to all at a premium price 3 February 2009 - 23 March 2009
  • General Availability - registrations open to all 24 March 2009
So, it is really good to have your own .TEL domain name?
I can create my own emie.com or i.king.net to provide the same format if I want. So what is the benefit of getting your own .tel? I registered Filipino.Tel to test the management interface. I found out that you don't need a website to host .tel. You can input all the information you want to share in public .e.g to show the contact information your phone number (of course), website, instant messaging, sms, etc. So I don't really need to buy one for my personal use.

There is a friend interface that I haven't use yet. I will be looking to check it out.

The advantage of having .tel domain is you can easily update your information on the fly. No hosting or programming needed to manage your account. At this date, you can still register your firstname or lastname .tel domain name.

What about my business .Tel?
For securing your business or company brand, I highly recommended that you buy the .tel.
It is also an alternative ways to invest your money. Other than that, I can't think of good use of .Tel.

Additional information About .tel
"The value of a .tel domain lies with the ability to host personal (or corporate) contact information directly in the DNS, which can then be universally accessible. This stands in contrast to the typical use of the DNS for other TLDs, in which the DNS only provides a mapping between domain names and IP Addresses." (2009, Telnic.org)

Keep in mind, this is my humble opinion only. You might have different views or business approach, please post your comment here.

Thank you,

This is a simple procedure to add Office Outlook Data Files or some tech guys call it a PST file. Note: This procedure is for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 edition only.
  1. Start your Microsoft Outlook
  2. Click on Tools, Options.
  3. In Options, click on Mail Setup tab, then click Data Files.
  4. In Account Settings, click Add. You will see two selection. The 1st selection type of storage is Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst) and the 2nd type of storage is Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst). The different is, the Office Outlook Personal Folders File is not compatible with Outlook 97, 98, 2000, and 2002.
  5. Select the 1st type of storage e.g. Office Outlook Personal Folders File.
  6. You will ask to create or Open Outlook Data File. By default, you will save the PST file to your local profile. For example, c:/Documents and Settings/king.net( king.net is my login profile name)/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook/
  7. The default file name is Personal Folders and save as type Personal Folders Files. You can change the file name to what ever you want. I prefer to use YYYYComment to easily identify the Personal Folders File. For example, 2009MyEmail.pst
  8. Click OK to continue.
  9. In Microsoft Outlook 2007 Edition, it will prompt you to add password. You can type the password of leave it blank. Click OK to continue.
  10. Click OK. Your will return to the main of Micrsoft Outlook.
  11. Check your All Mail Items to see your new created Personal Folders File.
  12. You can now use this Personal Folders File to store messages. Simply drag and drop to move folders and files.

If you ask, why I need to give password to my PST file? The Personal Folders File (.pst) is only a file that you can copy and open using Microsoft Outlook program as your reader. Without password, someone who possess the PST file can see all the messages including attachments.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to post your comments.

More Security Loopholes Found In Google Docs

If you're heavily using Google Docs (just like me) for sharing documents, you need to read this article from TechCrunch.com. The current issue is related to sharing documents, embedded pictures and archiving your documents. For details, continue reading the article.

"Security consultant Ade Barkah checked in with us to alert us to a couple of serious security issues associated to Google Docs, the web-based office software from the world’s most famous search engine company, giving a whole new meaning to its mission to make the world’s information universally accessible. On his blog on software, infrastructure and security, Barkah outlines no less than three issues that he discovered while investigating some potential security lapses." (2009, TechCrunch.com)

I received this unsolicited email from Domain Notice asking me to complete and return by fax a form regarding notification for my business address (MyBusinessAddress.com) search engine subscriptions. Click the image on your left side to see the actual message. According to the email, this is a courtesy reminder to register my domain name search engine listing so my customers can locate me on the web. I guess I have to send them a post card.

This is why I have my domain name, I am using my email address @KING.NET to let them know how to get in touch with me.

And the email has this notice, it will expire on this date (today)! Laugh out load.

Google, Yahoo, MSN and other related search engine add your website for free. Why bother spending $75 for 1 year, $119 for 2 years, $199 for 5 years and $295 for 10 years.

If you are trying to fix NAT connection problem with your Xbox Live, you come to the right place (well I provide other informations IT-related). It took me a while to resolve this on my own, with the help of reading some articles as noted here.

For this article, I will use my router device (also my wireless, gateway and firewall) Motorola SBG900 for my example.

  • Configure your Router. You need to login to your router (or firewall) and add the following ports needed to run Xbox Live. These are TCP 80, UDP 88, UDP/TCP 3074, UDP/TCP 53, UDP 1900, and TCP 5000. The 80 and 53 are needed anyway. The port 80 is for browsing the Internet and 53 for resolving the DNS information. The ports 88 and 3074 are port Xbox Live prots.
  • Enable Universal Plag N Play (UPnP). Some router device configuration have an easy way to enable it. If you don't have this feature, you need to add port UDP 1900 and TCP 5000 to enable support of UPnP frameworks.
  • NAT Open. You need to add entry for port fowarding to allow Xbox Live connection to work.
  • Port Forwarding information. XBOX_1900, Port Start 1900, Port End 1900 for 192.168.0.5. And XBOX_5000, Port Start 5000, Port End 5000 for 192.168.0.5. The IP address (192.169.0.5) is assigned to my Xbox device.
  • The End of how to configure.

How to undock Dell Latitude D410?

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 11:23 PM 0 comments
Early this morning I'm working with one of our laptop in the office. It's been a while since the last time I've used the docking station for a laptop. Before I go on with my story, let me give you a link about docking station so you know what I'm referring to.

So I place my Dell Latitude D410 in the docking station to test the DVD drive. When I about to remove it, I have no idea how to get it done. I focus on pushing the button in the left side of the docking station but no success. I told myself, I don't need a brain surgery to figure this out.

Well, 10 minutes later I'm still looking a way to get it done. Hmm, search the Internet for information but most links I've clicked are all about Dell specifications and promotional links. This is the reason I wrote this blog, to help other techie out there to get the answer right away.

To find the answer of my own. I've used my hands to slide on all sides and viola. I've found the un-latch lever that nicely blend on the docking station of Dell laptop. You will be able to see it left upper-corner of the docking station if you are facing your computer.

Hope this help you save your 10 minutes looking for this information through the Internet.
Cheers for now.

Microsoft release availability of Internet Explorer 8.0 at the company's MIX09 conference and available for download at 9am Pacific Time March 19.

I'm so excited of this release so I went to read the features of IE 8. Well some of the text still pointing to Internet Explorer 7.0 hmmm.. Anyway, let's explore the features that will benefit us as a users.
  • Tabbed browsing. I saw this already in IE 7.0 released. I haven't explore much about Quick Tabs and Tab Groups. I wanted to see in IE 8.0 to drag and drop to another open browser just like the Google Chrome. I have nothing to share for Instant Search Box, RSS Feeds, Favorites, etc. I think this should be part of standard internet explorer.
  • Dynamic Security Protection. ActiveX opt-in is a good addition to prompt users options to install it. I suggest to disable it, you can go back and activate this feature from the Add-on Manager. The Phishing Filter is definitely a good feature to protect you against potential or known fraudulent websites.

Hmm reading these features seems the same from the last released of Internet Explorer 7.0. I think they haven't updated the website yet for IE 8.0. I will need to go back to this article again for updates. Though the download for Internet Explorer 8.0 is ready for you. Check it out.

Microsoft PubCenter is coming soon.

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 1:08 AM 0 comments
No one stopping Microsoft PubCenter (upcoming competitor of Google Adsense), though still in beta stage. Some tipster already saw increase in revenue. I'm only assuming that Microsoft is giving a higher revenue share. To encourage existing adsense users to use the Microsoft PubCenter is to offer them a higher revenue share. For example 70/30 or 80/20, 80% revenue share goes to the publishers and the remaining 20% for Microsoft.

"We are getting reports that Microsoft’s PubCenter, a self serve thirty party ad publishers platform through AdCenter, is doing quite well with beta testers. Microsoft began testing PubCenter last summer.

One beta tester we spoke with said PubCenter is paying significantly more than Google AdSense and Yahoo Publisher. All three of these programs let third party publishers add contextual ads next to their content via a self-service format.

Google has dominated this space in the past (and all other contextual advertising) because it offers publishers higher fees for ads. But this might change when Microsoft unveils PubCenter to the greater publisher community, particularly if Microsoft is aggressive in revenue splits to gain market share." (2009, TechCrunch.com)

REDC Acquires Domain Name Auction.com for $1.7M

I've read this Press Release from the Google News today, very wise decision to make by REDC Chairman Robert Friedman. It is a great acquisition to support a business.

"RVINE, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- REDC, the leader in real estate auctions, has acquired the domain name, Auction.com, for $1.7 million, company Chairman Robert Friedman announced today.
"I've wanted this domain for years and I'm thrilled that we were able to acquire this coveted top level domain," Friedman says. "REDC is without question the number one real estate auctioneer in America and quite likely the world. This is a domain we should have had from the beginning and I'm thrilled we are finally Auction.com."
REDC's consumer website for Lender Foreclosed home auctions, until now, has been http://www.ushomeauction.com/. The company is in the process of making the conversion to http://www.auction.com/ exclusively." (2009, PRNewswire.com)

Regarding your domain name.

I managed some domain names for personal and business use. Once in a while, I received offers to my domains which I don't have plan of selling it anytime soon. For a couple of days, I'm received unsolicited emails from different email addresses but with the same contents.

Here's an example of email.
=======================

Hello,
I came across your domain name KING.NET (as example) and I would be interested in buying it from you. Here is my offer, you have to send me a professional appraisal from one of the following companies and I will pay you 85% of the appraise price.

For payments under $2000 I prefer to use paypal. And for larger amounts of money I prefer if we used escrow.com.

dot GOD Internet Domain

"Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that allowing domains based on religion or denomination would unnecessarily create more conflicts in a world already full of disputes.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, cautioned Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) about the hazards of allowing new Internet domains as .christian, .muslim, .hindu, .buddhist, .jew, etc.

ICANN is currently considering launching of new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD), which is the technical term for the suffixes which appear at the end of Internet addresses and are used to route traffic through the Internet, like .biz, .com, .info, .jobs, etc

Rajan Zed argued that this would generate discord and religious bodies would end up contesting various cybersquatter registrations. Similarly named denominations would claim exclusive rights to particular domains. Moreover, it would mean extra financial burden on already struggling religious organizations, benefiting mostly squatters and sellers." (2009, Webnewswire.com)

There are some ways to accomplish this task (manage your home or office computers), through VPN, Remote Desktop, NetMeeting, Webex, GotoMeeting by Citrix, etc. I will only share my experience using GotoMyPC.com remote connection service.

The installation is straight forward, the wizard is excellent. Install, Register (with your credit card), agree to Terms and Conditions, create your password, access code and viola. You're ready to manage your workstation wherever you go as long as you have internet connection with Internet Explorer browser.

Here's the step by step installation and setup:
HOWTO install GotoMyPC to your host (home pc or office workstation).
  • Go to http://www.gotomypc.com/ using your Internet Explorer. I've tested it using IE7.0 browser.
  • Click the Try it Free. This will give you 30 days trial period.
  • Register with your name, email address and your credit card information. If you don't cancel within 30 days, they will automatically charge your credit card for $19.95 per recurring month. So, don't forget to cancel if you don't like it.
  • Agree, to Terms of Services (TOS).
  • Continue to create your email address (your login name) and your password
  • Click on Yes to install GoToMyPC (run the install, do not save)
  • You need to restart your workstation to finish the setup. After the reboot, it will try to authenticate your installation.
  • It will ask you to login using your email address and password.
  • Create your computer Nickname and Access Code (password)
  • Install complete.

Now to manage this host from other computer remotely, here's how to:

  • In your remote (other) computer, open Internet Explorer (IE 7.0) browser and type http://www.gotomypc.com/ in URL Address.
  • You need to login using your email address and password.
  • Under My Computer, select the computer (Nickname) that you want to manage.
  • Click on Connect
  • Enter the Access Code to authenticate your connection.

From here, you should be able to manage your host computer. You can run applications, windows security updates, installation of additional software's, etc.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please post it here. Thank you, KING.NET

This HOWTO is only applicable if you're in the same network subnet or connected using your company's VPN service.

Prerequisite:
You need to be a workstation local admin group or with administrative rights within your
domain. You configured your workstation firewall settings to allow Remote Desktop connection.

First, check if the workstation firewall setting is allowing remote desktop connection:
  • To allow Remote Desktop, click on Start, Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double click on Windows Firewall icon.
  • In Windows Firewall, click Exceptions tab, then put check on Remote Desktop, click OK to close.
  • Click on Start, right-click on My Computer, then Properties.
  • In System Properties, click on Remote tab, put check on Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
  • Get the computer name and IP address.

To test, go to any workstation in your network and start the Remote Desktop tool. Click on Start, Run, type MSTSC hit [Enter] to execute. You may use the computer name or IP address. If the DNS is working properly, you can use the computer name and if not use the IP Address.

I hope this help you.

Cheers, KING.NET

"The 2010 Prius debuted today in Detroit and, well, it's a new Prius. But it's also a little bit more in a lot of little ways. First, if all you care about is mileage, the number you need to know is a combined rating of 50 mpg, based on Toyota's own internal testing. That bump in MPGs (up from 46 in the current model) comes from a larger and more powerful 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder engine. That may sound counterintuitive, but Toyota's press release (pasted after the jump) is prepared for that, and says that the higher torque means lower rpm on the highway. And the highway is where hybrids don't exactly shine." (2009, Autobloggreen.com)

Using MS Outlook 2007 or any application in Microsoft 2007, I found it more annoying than productive tool for my users. I will not discuss them in details here, only the MS Outlook 2007 issues.
  • Outlook 2007 slow responds when you access an email to read, reply or forward.
  • When you browse other subfolder within your email.
  • Searching is drastically slow to find any items within your outlook.

I've searched the Microsoft support website, produces more results. I will only share something that is useful and worth your time to read.

Symptoms: "Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 momentarily stops responding during typical operations. This includes when you read e-mail messages, move e-mail messages or delete e-mail messages. These symptoms are most noticeable during mail delivery or duing synchronization. These symptoms become more pronounced as store size increases. The are more likely to occur when the size of the .pst file or the size of the .ost file approaches 2 gigabytes (GB). Additionally, they are more pronounced in a very large .pst file or in a very large .ost file that is 4 GB or larger." (2009, Support.Microsoft.com)

Resolutions: Install the update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933493. The update is to improve the general responsiveness of Outlook 2007 during common operations. These operations include reading, moving, deleting, and downloading e-mail messages for users who have large mailbox files (.pst files and .ost files) that are stored on their computers. This update optimizes the parttern in which Outlook 2007 writes a large .pst file or to a large .ost file. This results in a reduction of disk access.

This update is designed to do the following:

  • Reduce the time that is required to copy or move messages from one folder to another folder.
  • Increase the download speed when you download messages.
  • Reduce the time that is required to delete messages.

To read more details, please visit this link: htpp://support.microsoft.com/kb/932086

Best practices:

  • Educate your e-mail users to regularly clean their mailbox. Empty Deleted folders.
  • Reduce the file size of .pst or .ost under 2GB. I always recommend under 1GB file size only.
  • Get in touch with your technical support for assistance.
  • Send me email here at KING.NET

Don't hesitate to share your input and thank you in advance.

I know a lot of people are video conferencing using Skype, Yahoo IM, Microsoft MSN, Google Gmail Video, etc. But have you tried to video conference with 2 or more people at the same time? This the missing ingredient in today free VOIP services.
Well, I stumbled this website ooVoo.com that provides free video call to up six friends.
What is ooVoo?
"ooVoo is FREE Video calling. See up to six friends, family or colleagues at the same time with video quality that's like being face-to-face in the same room" (2009, ooVoo.com)

This is good news to all AT&T/Cingular Mobile Phone users (I am one of them). I've got this information today from Cellular-News.com website regarding the improvement of Washington DC Underground Railway. I think this is about time. I have 30-45 minutes dead coverage (or worst when we are using a single track) when I ride the Metro here in Vienna going to Washington DC and vice versa.

"Mobile phone coverage on the Washington metro railway is to be improved following a decision last week by the Metro’s Board. Four major cell phone companies -- Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile -- will build a new wireless infrastructure in the underground rail system during the next four years." (2009, Cellular-News.com)

According to the website, twenty of the busiest underground rail stations (I hope including Orange track) will have expanded cell phone service (coverage) by the end of this year and the entire rail system will be equipped by 2012.

I guess there is a light at the end of the tunnel. :)
Cheers for now,
