Google Voice in your iPhone

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 6:32 PM 0 comments
"Apple may have blocked the Google Voice internet telephony app from its App Store, but Google has executed a nifty end-run around the blockade by releasing Google Voice as a web page that is accessible by any HTML5 web browser. Simply direct your iPhone or Palm Pre to google.com/voice to make calls from your Google Voice account (Android and Blackberry owners can just keep using their native Google Voice apps)" (2010, Wired.com)

Actually I like this approach, because you don't have to download any software to your iPhone. Just point your safari internet browser URL address to http://www.google.com/voice, login using your account ID and password, you're ready to call anyone, and not wasting your mobile air minutes. While in the same screen, click the (+) sign to book mark "Add to Home Screen" so that it will look like a native apps.

Randompage.com community is down!

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 1:14 AM 0 comments
As of 2:59pm PST RandomPage.com (RP) social networking still down. According NING "We are still seeing error and maintenance messages on a few Ning Networks. Our engineers have narrowed down the cause of this maintenance and are working on a fix now. We will post another update here at 4:45pm Pacific. Thanks!" (2010, status.Ning.com).

My last visit to RandomPage.com (RP) at 10:10pm PST, the social networking website still down. The message posted in the website is "We apologize for the inconvenience, but RandomPage.com is currently undergoing maintenance."

Well I guess this is one of the disadvantage of hosting with NING with your social network. :(

Update:
Ning resolved the problem as noted in their blog.

2:55pm PST NING back to unscheduled maintenance affecting our community e.g. RandomPage.com (RP)
4:55pm PST NING engineers still trying to figure out on how to resolve this issue. Most NING social networks intermittently going up and down for the past 48 hours as of 6:42pm PST.

Migrating 6,000 users in Google Apps

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 12:30 AM 0 comments
At the end of 2008, we were at a crossroads for our email and collaboration tools. We had to make a long-term decision on what direction to take. At the time, we had over 6,000 Lotus Notes/Domino users around the world using an older platform (Lotus Notes/Domino version 6.5). We had some serious challenges: our users were frustrated with the outdated Notes/Domino functionality, the IT environment was complicated, and the ongoing maintenance costs were high. At the same time, we were working to implement an email archiving and e-discovery solution that was, frankly, not going well. To add to the mix, the world economy was in free-fall and our business was seeing those effects.

We wanted to improve our messaging tools while simplifying the IT environment, but needed a cost-effective approach. We originally thought we should upgrade our existing solutions to the latest releases, but knew that was going to be a time-consuming and expensive approach. So, we started seriously evaluating other options. During our review, we considered the hosted versions of the Lotus and Microsoft offerings, but ultimately focused our attention on evaluating Google Apps.

Some nice domain names in auction.

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 3:59 PM 0 comments
The Latonas.com held an auction for premium (some of them) domain names in Las Vegas January 22, 2010 7pm eastern time. For the first hour is a failure due to technical difficulties. I'm not surprise for first timer though this is a huge lost in many ways e.g. trust of the seller, buyer, reliability of the auction system, and the process. No backup in place where million dollars of domain names at stake.

I experienced the online nightmare when I tried to visit the website, not loading properly and the online update is not happening. So in short, I decided to stop watching the auction.

Now, teens are the new CEOs

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 12:24 AM 0 comments
I read this article last weekend and wanted to share this to you.

"Bangalore: At a time, when teens are glued to the computer screens playing games in the virtual world, there is a new breed of Indian Indian teens who are busy managing their own ventures in the real world. For example, Mohnish Nagpal runs a blog 'Sensonize.com,' through which he makes money online by advising people on how to make money online. Coming back home after college, Nagpal starts working at 5.30 pm when his target audience in the U.S. wakes up and logs on to the internet, reports Mahafreed Irani of The Times of India.

One of his posts lists blogging, affiliate marketing, paid surveys and writing articles for directories as some of the ways of making money online. "Very few people know that you can even earn by tweeting," Nagpal says. With a steady five-figure income, he doesn't have to worry about pocket money. "Every time someone clicks an advert on my blog, I get paid for it," he adds.

Store and share files in the cloud.

Yesterday Google Apps announced they are rolling out the ability for Google Apps users to upload and securely share any type of file internally and externally using Google Docs. Every Google Apps Standard Edition users will have 1GB free storage. If think this is good, check out Microsoft Skydrive free 25GB storage. Yes, you read it right 25GB storage. I will check Microsoft Skydrive service and will share this to you in another post.

Question for Google Apps, do you think you can offer higher free service comparable to Microsoft Skydrive? With Google Apps announcement, the Google Apps Premier Edition will be able to purchase additional storage for $3.5/GB/yr.
Sanmina-SCI is a leader in outsourced Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS). We have 37,000 diverse employees and our business is very competitive. We needed something that was less expensive to maintain and provided better collaboration tools than what our incumbent vendor, Microsoft, offered.

After putting Google through the test in more ways than you can imagine we decided that Google Apps was the way to go – especially after we saw collaboration tools like Google Sites. Then our job was to migrate 15,000 users in 18 countries...no small feat.

The New Approach to China Posted by David Drummond, SVP, Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer.

Here are some issues involved:
  • "In mid-December, we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google."
  • "We have discovered that at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses--including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors--have been similarly targeted."
  • "We have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Based on our investigation to date we believe their attack did not achieve that objective".
  • "We have discovered that the accounts of dozens of U.S.-, China- and Europe-based Gmail users who are advocates of human rights in China appear to have been routinely accessed by third parties"

Building five to ten websites a day in Year 2010.

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 12:07 AM 0 comments
I want to share my experience in developing five to ten websites a day. I thought it will be easy for me to accomplish this goal because I have the tools in place e.g. web server, content management system to run the website, ready templates, articles sharing and of course generic domain names. I forgot to include "time" to allocate each day. That's a big mistake, I have only 10:00pm-11:59pm as my quite time.

I have a day time job in Information Technology. The day to day routine varies depending on any given situation, projects and technology challenges for that day. In short, time management is really a big obstacle of meeting my target to develop my domain names at least five to ten websites a day.

Who is using Google Apps? City of Los Angeles

Posted by Support @ Whaddya.com On 12:06 AM 0 comments
Today I will start blogging to track who is using Google Apps for Government, Education, Private and Public company to make everyone aware of the power of cloud computing technology. Note. If you want to feature your company here, please create an article and send this to EM @ KING.NET for guest posting.

Last December of 2009, the City of Los Angeles chose to use Google Apps over Microsoft Exchange Server. Here's a notable saving switching to Google Apps. "Moving to Google Apps will free up nearly 100 servers that were used for our existing email system, which will lower our electricity bill by almost $750,000 over five years" (2010, Google Enterprise).

According @nwilkens twitter post (12:46pm ET) Customers should begin to see a significant improvement in services. We are still addressing some remaining issues. More updates pending.

Issue in Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2004, in Windows Exchange Server 2003 environment.

We are currently having an issue affecting a number of our users where when a meeting is re-scheduled in the Outlook Calendar the old meeting entry isn't been removed from the calendar leaving a duplicate Calendar entry in both the old and new meeting times. We are using Exchange 2003 and a mixture of Outlook 2003 and 2007. Though only Outlook 2003 users have reported experiencing this issue up to yet.
