If you're looking for a Terminal Services procedure, you're in the right place. The Terminal Services name was changed to Remote Desktop Services. I like it, it is more user friendly name to use. The video link I provided here is a step by step instructions to install the Terminal Services http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_0oeiCTTfU. This is a detailed instructions to follow installing Terminal Services for Windows Server 2008.

Please note, I used Windows Server 2008 R2 Data Center to write this procedures for Remote Desktop Services. Though, very close configuration for Terminal Services.

Let's begin.

  1. Right click on your Windows Server, and click on Manage.
  2. In Add Roles, put check on Remote Desktop Services, Network Policy and Access Services, and Web Server (IIS). Click Next.
  3. In Role services, put check on Remote Desktop Session Host, Remote Desktop Connection Broker, Remote Desktop Gateway, and Remote Desktop Web Access. Click Next.

You will use this to assign permission for your users. Click Add, Advance, it will prompt you to enter your AD username and password, e.g. Administrator and AD password. Click Find Now, and select the GRP Remote Access, click OK. In Users or User Groups, you will see the GRP Remote Access group added. Click Next to continue.
  7. You will have the option to enable the "Audio and video playback", "Audio recording redirection", and "Desktop composition". I do not select any of these. You can come back here and enable these selection if you want. For now, click Next to continue.
  8. In Server Authentication Certificate for SSL Encryption, select "Create a self-signed certificate for SSL encryption", click Next.
  9. In User groups that can connect through RD Gateway, add the GRP Remote Access (like Step 6), click Next to continue.
  10. In RD CAP, accept the name default TS_CAP_01, choose Password, and click Next.
  11. In RD CAP, accept the name default TS_RAP_01, choose Allow users to connect to any computer on the network. Click Next.
  12. In Network Policy and Access Services, click Next.
  13. In Role services, select Network Policy Server, click Next.
  14. In Web Services (IIS), click Next.
  15. In Role services, click Next to accept default setup.
  16. Click Install to proceed installation. Wait for the installation to complete.

Calendar Sharing in Exchange Online Services

Posted by Support @ KING.NET On 6:18 AM 0 comments
This article will provide you step-by-step instructions on how to Share a Calendar in Exchange Online Services using BPOS (Business Productivity Online Services) or Office365. The Office365 will be the Microsoft brand name providing email hosting services, replacing the BPOS powered by Exchange Server 2007.

If you are looking a procedure on how to Share a Calendar using MS Exchange Server 2003/2007, please read this link: Whaddya know how to create a reservation in Outlook using Exchange 2003/2007.

Let's get down to business. Here's the step-by-step procedures:

  1. Login to Microsoft Online Services Administration Center, using your administrator email address and password.
  2. Click Users tab, in Actions, click on "Add new user"
  3. In General, enter your calendar's information e.g. username, First, Last, and Display. For example. First: Technology, Last: Calendar, and Display: # _Calendar, Technology. This will be first in your Global Address List.
  4. Create this new account as BPOS service. This complete the setup of Exchange Online user account, and I'm assuming that you are using Microsoft Online Service Sign-in tool. Click on E-Mail and Calendaring to open Outlook.
  5. In Outlook application, click File, Account Settings, then Delegates. Click Add, select the user name, click Add, click OK. In this delegate has the following permissions, Calendar - select Author (can read and create items). Click OK.
  6. In Delegates, click OK to complete. Repeat this process to add new user with Author permission. If you want to assign full permission, choose the Editor permission.
  7. Now we want to make sure this Shared Calendar will automatically accept meeting requests, and decline conflicting events. Click File, Options. In Outlook Options, click Calendar, then scroll down to click on Resource Scheduling.
  8. In Resource Scheduling, put check on "Automatically accept meeting requests and remove cancelled meetings" and "Automatically decline meeting requests that conflict with an existing appointment or meeting.". Click OK.
I hope this article provided you a good information.
Thank you.

iOS 5.0.1 is out today

Posted by Support @ KING.NET On 10:09 AM 0 comments
If you own the new iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, an update is available for you. This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:

  • Fixes bugs affecting battery life
  • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation.
Note: You need to be WIFI connected to run the update on your iPhone or iPad, the GSM connection will not be fast enough to download almost 40Mb file.

Anyway, it will not allow you to run the update if not connected to WIFI. This is smart programming, kudos to Apple update programming team. And it will also recommend that your iPhone is connected to a power source for not to drain the battery.

The software update from 5.0 to 5.0.1 is smooth. I don't have to connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro to get this latest iOS update. Looking forward for a longer battery life.

How to secure your new computer?

Posted by Support @ KING.NET On 7:05 AM 0 comments
I bought a laptops for my children. Here's how to secure it, or simply minimizing cyber threat (risks).

  • I setup and configured the laptops using the local administrator account.
  • Run windows update, and apply those security patches. Sometimes you need to run Windows Update, twice or three times to make sure that all security patches applied to your computer.
  • After the installation of security patches, make sure that you set this windows update "automatic" once every week to keep your computer up to date. Click Start, Control Panel, then Windows Update. Here you can modify how frequent you want your computer to receive update automatically. Of course you can come back and make the necessary adjustment as you see fit.
  • After the security update install and setup. It's time to download and install anti-virus software. It's nice to know that Microsoft offer Free Anti-Virus for Windows. Here's the link to download the software http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials, and if the link is not working. Google it "Microsoft Security Essentials", and it will provide the updated link.
  • To install the Microsoft Security Essentials, simply accept the default installation. After the install, run a full scan of your computer, and update the settings.
  • Install all the applications you need such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, etc. I've asked my kids to use Google Apps Doc for their projects so we don't have to spend extra $$$ buying Microsoft Office. This is part of Gmail Docs for word, excel, and powerpoint. Create your gmail email address here http://www.gmail.com
  • Install your printer drivers.
  • After all the basic setup, windows security updates, installation of software's, and printer driver installation. You need to create a "user" account with basic rights to use your computer. So, if you use "admin" for all the installation. You need to create account for "Joe", "Mary" and "Jane" with their own passwords. When they use their own "user" account, you minimize exposures when surfing the Internet. Those automatic cookie installations on your computer will be denied. When you click any executable "malicious" files will be denied, and you minimize of virus infection as well. You will only use the "admin" account if you will install new software and windows update install.
I hope this help you.
