Compass™ 597 by Sierra Wireless

Sprint Broadband service is a must for every IT Consultant, Domain Name Investors, Entrepreneurs, Business man or just a mobile user. I consider myself as one of the mobile user that can't function without Internet access. The installation is straight forward setup, all new devices or hardware should be done like that. All I need to do is insert the Sprint USB to my laptop, follow the default installation. My test machine that runs Windows XP operating system automatically detected a new device and install the right software to setup my Sprint broadband. Restart my workstation, the Sprint software have asked me to automatically configure my connection. Of course, I choose yes to automatically configure my connection setup. Viola ... I'm surfing the net.

Next, check my bandwidth speed. I've used bandwidthplace.com free service to give me the test result. I've got 864.44 kilobits per second. Not bad.

  1. The compass 597 really rocks! we do a size comparison of compass 597 vs. u727 (and others) in our video review of the compass 597 at http://www.EVDOinfo.com/compass

as you know, most everyone will get a U727 or Compass 597 so they can provide internet access to a single computer (like laptops)...

but some folks need to share their EVDO with more than one computer, (or perhaps share with their iPhone or iPod Touch, via WiFi)

if that sounds like something you would be interested in, then check out EVDO routers like those from http://www.EVDOinfo.com/cradlepoint

  3. Just to share my own experience using this mobile device. While in the Metro (subway) here in Washington DC to Vienna Virginia. I am connected for about 60% of time, some areas a dead site no Internet connectivity.

It's frustrating because I specifically asked the sales representative if this will work 100% in Metro subway.

By the way, the wireless device itself get hot after 15 minutes of connectivity.

Though access to the Internet in open space is working perfectly.

That's my story and I hope this help other business folks out there.

    Cheers.
