Whaddya know why GoDaddy.com recommends against .TV domain name?

GoDaddy.com is one of the cheapest domain name registration out there. I registered some domain names from GoDaddy, if not from NeedName.com website. I even bought Hostage.TV from them years ago. So why Bob Parsons or GoDaddy doesn't want you to register .TV? Maybe he was not able to get what he want for .TV or maybe he doesn't like the current management of .TV registry. For whatever reason, business must go on and deal other opportunity if you fail to get one. You win some and you lose some. That's one part being a businessman.  Tuvalu is sinking! This is not a flash news, everyone in the domain name industry already knew it. Searching the Internet, you will see the article written by Kevin Maney year 2004 discussing the opportunity and risk in domain name investment. In this article "VeriSign spokesman Tom Galvin tells me that a defunct country's Internet domain lives on." (2009, USAToday.com). But, ICANN published an article in opposite direction of To...

Whaddya know about Swine Flu?

Let's all take a break in posting articles and learn the basic of swine flu virus. I have no idea so I went surfing the Internet to get some information and found this from CNN website. " Swine Flue? Swine influenza, or swine flu, is a respiratory disease in pigs caused by a certain strain of type A influenza virus. Outbreaks of swine flue are not common among humans: Most people who get swine flue are infected through contact with pigs. The severity of swine flu in humans can vary from mild to sever. How it spreads? Although people typically get swine flue from contact with pigs, there are have been cases of person-to-person transmission. Experts think coughing, sneezing and contaminated surfaces can spread the infection among people, but it's unknown how easily that happens. The virus cannot be obtained through eating properly cooked pork or any pork product. Symptoms The sysmptoms are similar to those of the common flu: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, c...

Twitter spikes their traffic to 19Million

They are now serving at least 19 Million visitors, and I'm proud to say I am one of them (follow me at  http://t.king.net ). " Twitter’s march towards world domination continues apace. This morning comScore released its global numbers for March, 2009. Worldwide visitors to Twitter.com increased 95 percent in the month of March from 9.8 million to 19.1 million, according to its estimates. This compares to 9.3 million visitors in the U.S. alone . These numbers only count visitors to Twitter’s Website, which is not the same as active users and also does not include people who interact with Twitter via desktop or mobile clients (a large portion of users). But the comScore numbers provide a good proxy for Twitter’s overall growth, which was helped recently by  Ashton Kutcher’s race  with CNN to one million followers, and  Oprah’s subsequent adoption  of the service. If Twitter can keep this rate of growth up, it should cross 50 million visitors by summer" (2009, TechCrunch.com...

Whaddya like to know the future of Web3.0?

Just like me, I know you would like to know more about the Web 3.0 features and advancement that it will bring to your website. I know Google will adapt this changes to their platform so I guess I'm ok for now. Here's an article I read from AssociatedCities.com today: "ST. LOUIS – As the world turns and time turns into the inevitable tomorrow, what does that future hold for GeoDomains faced with Web 3.0? In the first couple phases of the Internet, Web sites established themselves within the miraculous realm of just being there and being accessible by anyone with a computer and modem. In Web 2.0, the bells and whistles were added and the interplay between the user and provider became more prevalent. What are experts expecting for Web 3.0? How does an average Web site and GeoDomain owner keep up? Here are some predictions and expectations for the next phase of the Internet." (2009, AssociatedCities.com ). NIC Mexico Announces the re-opening of domain name registrations directly under .MX

I'm glad to know that NIC.MX is now offering the .MX domain name extension to the public. On May 1, if you own a .com.mx domain name you can apply for the .mx. They are giving you the high priority because you already owned .com.mx extension. This makes sense, to avoid any conflicting issue of your brand (domain name). For example, I owned MEDIA.COM.MX then I can apply to reserve MEDIA.MX domain name for one year. If multiple users manage the same domain name, the oldest will be able to receive the rights of .MX extension. "As part of the efforts to fulfill the mission of placing the name of Mexico on the Internet, NIC Mexico has implemented important projects to make .MX domain names go far and beyond to reach more people. One of the most important was the launch of the Registry .MX, which represents a great improvement for the business model as it adopts international industry standards for the distributed domain name registration. In this model, customers register domain n...

Oracle Buys Sun

Good morning. This is one of the news that you don't expect to happen real soon. I was reading an article last week about IBM buying SUN, ending up with Oracle. "Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL) and Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $7.4 billion, or $5.6 billion net of Sun’s cash and debt. “We expect this acquisition to be accretive to Oracle’s earnings by at least 15 cents on a non-GAAP basis in the first full year after closing. We estimate that the acquired business will contribute over $1.5 billion to Oracle’s non-GAAP operating profit in the first year, increasing to over $2 billion in the second year. This would make the Sun acquisition more profitable in per share contribution in the first year than we had planned for the acquisitions of BEA, PeopleSoft and Siebel combined,” said Oracle Pres...

Cloud Computing is the future of Software as a Service (SaaS)

I have some readers asking more information about Cloud Computing and what I recommend. I personally tested Mozy.com for my home workstation (a laptop) because they offer free for 2GB ( read the test here ) personal and non-profit. The capacity is enough to cover my project files and if this is not enough, you can upgrade to unlimited for $4.95 per month only. I can't compare and test other Cloud Computing services out there because of upfront fees involve. They don't have a free account where you can test it before you use it. If you know other Cloud Computing services not listed here , please let me know so I can take a look. I'm hoping Google, Yahoo or Microsost will offer backup service soon. And if you are using a similar service, please share your experience with us. By the way, if you use Mozy for personal or non-profit use you might be able to increase your allocated free space by recommending their service to other users. Cool huh! Thank you, KING.NET

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 in Beta

Recently I started to budget and plan on how I will transition our Exchange Server 2003 to 2007. The Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Mainstream Support retired this year and I have a year to transition my users to version 2007. No worries, no rush, I will take my time to prepare for this project. I still have 'till 2014 for extended support. I was browsing one of my favorite Tech website eweek.com and read this article about the public beta release for Exchange Server 2010. I said great, the technology is always one step ahead. "Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, the follow-up to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, includes several new features designed to appeal to both the IT administrator and enterprise user, as Microsoft prepares for hard competition against Google, IBM, Cisco and others moving aggressively into the enterprise-solutions space." (2009, eweek.com ) The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 includes welcome improvements and eweek.com provided a slideshow for you to en...

The Future of Legs.

The Popular Science website posted an article representing the future of legs for walking assistance. In the future, wheel chair is no longer needed. I just wish they can develop it a lot faster and make it useful for sports person like me so I can still play basketball just like I'm 18. Here's why. "The first, which looks a bit like an industrial-strength garter belt, is called "Stride Management Assist" (there will doubtless be a renaming process before the devices come to the U.S. market). It secures around the user's waist and grips each thigh. Then, by monitoring the angle of the hips, it calculates the wearer's stride and provides helpful force -- not exactly moving your legs for you, but what the makers call "cooperative control," lengthening the stride and regulating the pace of walking." Whaddya know other Netbook (mini laptops) out there? Netbook Comparison

I'm planning to buy my own Netbook, just like you confuse where to get one or which one is better. I have a basic requirements for my netbook, as listed below: at low PRICE as possible. at least 1GB memory. The 2 or 4 Gb memory will be nice but the price will go up. at least 80Gb hard disk. Harddisk is cheap so this will not be a problem. with Wireless and RJ-45 connector CD/DVD optional but it would be great to have it built-in. The Panasonic CF-w4 or w5 comes with built-in DVD and they still manage to make it small. The price is not within my budget. Here's a good Netbook comparison I've found from cnet.co.uk website. Check it before you decide to buy. Leave us your feedback. Thank you.

Whaddya know what will be the effect of Cybersecurity Act 2009 to your job and business?

I was reading this article from eWeek this morning and I would like to share this to IT Consultants and other-related consulting business that the CyberSecurity Act 2009 will might change the way they do business. I hope for the better. Text of S.773 as Introduced in Senate Cybersecurity Act of 2009 "A bill to ensure the continued free flow of commerce within the United States and with its global trading partners through secure cyber communications, to provide for the continued development and exploitation of the Internet and intranet communications for such purposes, to provide for the development of a cadre of information technology specialists to improve and maintain effective cybersecurity defenses against disruption, and for other purposes." Robots to Fight Autism

Keepon dancing to Spoon's "I Turn My Camera On" One little yellow robot is a hot contender for cutest medical device. "Two years ago, a yellow spongiform robot named Keepon became a minor YouTube sensation when one of its creators programmed it to do a squishy, twisty dance in time to the Spoon song "I Turn My Camera On." The video has garnered more than 2 million hits. Now Keepon's keepers, Marek Michalowski, a Ph.D student in robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, and Hideki Kozima of Miyagi University in Japan, are turning Keepon's attention to a more serious task: to study how children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) interact socially and to see if the robot may be able to help in therapy." NetworkQuery.com is your complete toolkit to check your network.

NetworkQuery.com is the complete open-source toolkit of network utilities e.g. Whois, Whois IP, DNS, DIG, Port, Ping, Trace Route, etc. powered by Netquery scripts coded by Richard Virtue . I first used this tool in early 2000, the copy I've got is written and coded by different programmer. I'm sorry I can't remember the name to give him credit. Whaddya know how to check the area code of your callers?

I'm wondering how to find out where my callers are coming from? I forget the website address that I used in the past to check my callers origin. So I searched the Internet for this specific service. Though I wasn't successful of getting the one I know, blessing in disguise I've found ReversePhoneDetective.com service. According to the website: "Discover who's calling! Whether you're researching a phone bill, tracing a unwanted caller, or verifying address, Reverse Phone Detective make it fast and easy to conduct a phone search." (2009, ReversePhoneDetective.com ) When I test their service, they can tell if the phone number is mobile or landlline and the location of the caller. Since I am only using the basic service, you can actually pay to receive a full report for only $14.95 or Premium Membership unlimited Reverse Phone lookups for 1 year. Check it out yourself and post your feedback here. Thank you, KING.NET

SM.TV is now live and ready to serve you.

We are proud to announce that SM.TV short URL service is now live. And yes, this is a short URL service just like other short services that you see everyday. We thought that another website offering free service is always a good thing, to create a friendly competition so the business that provides these kind of service will stay free for all Internet users. A friendly competition will help move the technology to the next level so they can provide us a better service and better product. We are using an open source script coded by R Guerin of TightURL.com , here's a sneak peek of some useful features: Squeeze that long URL to a "really" short URL e.g. using http://sm.tv/h to redirect to a long URL address where no one can remember. This is the reason we use SM.TV domain name for this specific purpose. Checks submitted and accepted URLs against SURBL "Lists of website that appeared in unsolicited messages" (2009, SURBL) and URIBL "Lists domains taht appear...

fring news: iPhone new version in the App Store Now

New update from Fring to support iPhone firmware 3.0 === I just wanted to let you know that there’s a new version of fring in the App Store with some features users have been asking us for, providing an even smoother fringing experience. You can now choose whether to show or hide your Offline contacts and regular GSM buddies. And for convenience, we’ve moved fring settings to the general iPhone settings, so there’s no need to open fring each time you want to make a small change. You’ll also notice a small flag symbol in the top left hand corner of the dialer screen, Tap this and you’ll get a list of countries. Select the one you’re calling and the International dial code will automatically be entered making overseas Skype Out and SIP calls even easier. We’re also just finishing off a notification add-on for this version. This add-on will notify you when your friends are trying to connect with you whilst your fring is closed. This of course includes all the different services (Skype, MS...

Jobster is officially using Recruiting.com

This is a good action from Jobster to acquire the domain name Recruiting.com. It perfectly make sense to have this domain name to feature their own business and services. Hat off to Jobster Management and the people involve to close this transaction. "Jobster has changed its name to Recruiting.com , with the Seattle company notifying customers of the change this week. The heavily-funded startup purchased the Recruiting.com domain name and blog in 2006 for an undisclosed price. It has been using that name for its business-to-business online recruiting tools since last July." (2009, TechFlash.com )

14 Dead in New York shooting.

I read this post from CNN regarding this incident today in New York. "The gunman had barricaded the door of the center with his car and nobody could get out. At first, Tokhtabayeba wasn't sure what was happening. "I never heard shootings before. I thought someone was joking, maybe, something falling on the floor," she said. But then she realized the reality of what was unfolding around her." (2009, CNN.com )

Testing Skype for iPhone

This is a follow up from a recent post about Skype in your iPhone or iPod . It took me 5-10 minutes to download the Skype into my iPhone, install and login to my account. When you successfully login to your Skype account, the program will provide your a contact list including their pictures posted to Skype contact directory. I'm so excited about it, so I tried it right away using my existing connection e.g. GPRS. I've got this error. "Skype calls over 3G networks are currently not supported due to restrictions that may be placed on your data plan. For more information visit www.skype.com." Maybe Skype hasn't realize that iPhone Data Plan in USA via AT&T (Cingular) is unlimited for a fixed monthy fees. So I've tested this using WiFi connection and successfully initiated a call to a friend. It worked! By the way, I was not able use my Jawbone bluebooth while using Skype iPhone.

Facebook Loses CFO Gideon Yu

I was reading this article from TechCrunch that CFO Gideon Yu is leaving the company because Facebook are looking for a public company experience. That to me is a non-sense alibi. Read the quote I've got from Techcrunch. "Facebook confirms that CFO Gideon Yu will be leaving the company. Gideon has played an important role in helping us achieve our financial success, building a strong finance team and establishing the core financial operations of our company. We are grateful to Gideon for his contributions to Facebook and what we are trying to accomplish. Despite the poor economic climate, we are pleased that our financial performance is strong and we are well positioned for the next stage of our growth. We have retained Spencer Stuart to lead our search for a new CFO and will be looking for someone with public company experience." (2009, Techcrunch.com )

Skype is now available in Apps Store

UPDATE: I used my iPhone Apps Store to get this information for Skype. "Skype is free calls and instant messages. And you can call landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world at great rates. Skype is free to download and easy to use. Free Skype-to-Skype Callls With Skype on your iPhone or iPod touch, simply sign into Skype from any WiFi zone, and call friends and family on Skype totally free. See who's online and instant message them. Sign into Skype via 3G, Edge, GPRS or WiFi and check who's online - then instant message them whenever and wherever the mood strikes." === This is an excellent application add-on to your iPhone or iPod where you can instant messaging (chat) and talk free through your WIFI service, 3G, GPRS or EDGE which ever is available. I'm not sure about the video feature if this will be part of Skype iPhone Apps. I visited Skype.com website to get the details of Skype Apps but I can't find this information from their website. It's a plane, it's a bird, no it's Yves Rossy wearing a homemade jet-fueled wingsuit.

After reading this article from Popsci website about the Wingman Yves Rossy. Anything is possible, he can fly using this homemade jet-fueled wingsuit. Currently the jetpack can fly him to 22 miles distance, not bad at all. Seeing this picture at the left, is a big improvement to the previous aero design. Technology is helping us achieve the impossible. "A few minutes ago, we're told, Rossy jumped out of a plane 6,600 feet above Cap Gris Nez, on the French side, unfolded the composite wing on his back to its full 8-foot-2-inch span, and hit the thrusters. Assisted by four model-size jet engines and a slight tailwind, he should be screaming toward us at 134 mph, about a mile above the Channel. "It's quite exciting to have half the world's media here," says a local television reporter. She exaggerates, though it's true that this spectacle is being broadcast live to 164 countries by the National Geographic Channel." (2009, Popsci.com )
