Google retiring Adsense Referrals

I received this email today from Google Adsense regarding retiring Adsense Referrals. It's time to update your website if you are using the service before last week of August 2008. Here's the full email message: --- Start of Email --- Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals program. We’re writing to let you know that we will be retiring the AdSenseReferrals program during the last week of August. We appreciateyour patience during this transition and here are some alternativeoptions to consider: * Google Affiliate Network: As part of the integration ofDoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Network will nowoperate as the Google Affiliate Network for advertisers targetingusers located in the United States. Similar to the AdSenseReferrals program, the Google Affiliate Network enables publishersto apply for advertiser programs and get paid based onadvertiser-defined actions instead of clicks or impressions. Forfurther details, please visit: www.google.com/ads/

Google Launches Affiliate Advertising Network, Courtesy of DoubleClick

Amazon, watch out. Earlier today, Google launched an affiliate ad network. Or, rather, it rebranded Performics, the affiliate ad network that came along with its purchase of DoubleClick, as the “Google Affiliate Network.” As with other affiliate networks such as Amazon’s, participating Website publishers get paid a fee for each referral that results in a sale. Existing advertisers include Bank of America, Barnes & Noble, Citi, Target, and Verizon. The service isn’t yet integrated into Google AdSense (publishers and advertisers still have to set up separate accounts), but that would be a logical next step. An integration with AdSense could add a contextual element to the affiliate ads placed through the network. The more relevant Google can make those affiliate links, the more that consumers will actually click through and buy (in theory). Source: TechCrunch

Grou.ps Pulls In $1.1 Million, Opens Up Code To Take On Ning

Grou.ps , a startup based in San Francisco, has secured a $1.1 Million Series A financing round in a deal led by Golden Horn Ventures . Grou.ps will also now be open-sourcing a restricted version of its code, with a view to spreading its collaboration tools. This move is based around the idea of commoditizing the platform faster and then taking advantage of the fact that they can then hire the best programmers out there. Currently Grou.ps has about 200,000 active users worldwide, after launching a public beta in April. The site offers chat, blogs, wikis, forums, mailing lists, photo albums, bookmarking, calendaring and maps among other features. You can run all of your group’s collaboration tools from one Grou.ps domain using a single login. It also will mash with content from Flickr and YouTube. In fact if it sounds a little like Ning or Wetpaint, then that’s because it has several aspects in common with those sites. One of the main differences are that Ning - with $104 Million in ba

Choose the right Social Networking application.

If you are looking to establish your own community e.g social networking, here's a review completed by the geeks in TechCrunch . I agree with their finding about Ning. I actually use Ning in some of our project such as RandomPage.com (formerly known as Plogging.com ) and DNConference.com Domain Name for Business. --- The news may overflow with stories about the social networking giants, such as Facebook and MySpace , but a horde of companies are doing their best to reduce the fundamental features of these websites to mere commodities. These up-and-coming companies provide so-called “white label” social networking platforms that enable their customers to build their own social networks (often from scratch) and to tailor those networks to a range of purposes. The idea of white labeling a network is to make the platform provider as invisible as possible to the social network’s users and to brand the network with the builder’s identity or intent. While definitions of “social network

Recent National Arbitration Forum Domain Name Decisions Involve YouTube, Canadian Television and American Girl

The National Arbitration Forum issued decisions on the rights to YouTube.net, CTV.com, and AmericanGirl.net. Conflicts over domain names are on the rise. The dispute resolution provider handled 1,658 domain disputes in 2006, a 21 percent increase from the prior year, and 1,805 disputes in 2007. The following decisions were made in accordance with the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) by independent and neutral arbitrators on the National Arbitration Forum Panel. YouTube.net Complainant Google Inc., owner of the popular video sharing site YouTube.com, filed a complaint on March 11, 2008 against YiWuShi Shuangfeng Jixie Youxian Gongsi of China, the registered owner of YouTube.net. The National Arbitration Forum Panelist followed traditional UDRP principles in disregarding the functional ".net" generic top-level domain (gTLD) when determining the "YouTube" domain name was identical t

Ferrari California

For the unveiling of its first front-engined V8 sportscar, Ferrari rolled out a dedicated launch site. But up until now, the site (as well as the company's media portal) only gave us a glimpse at a handful of studio shots. Germany's AutoBild, meanwhile, managed to obtain a handful of new shots of the California out in the open, inside and out and front to back. Natural sunlight seems to soften the sportscar's lines a fair deal... but don't take our word for it: Check out the images in the gallery below to see for yourself. Source: Autoblog.com

Microsoft And Yahoo Talks Back On

We’ve got multiple sources at both Yahoo and Microsoft telling us that official talks are back on between the two companies. But we’re hearing something different than CNET - the talks are about a full buyout again, not a sweetened search-only deal. The information we have is thin, but what one source is saying that Microsoft is talking a price lower than the $33 they were offering when the talks disintegrated in May . Given Yahoo’s recent share price (it’s below $21 today ), and the fact that just about everyone other than their board and top execs are publicly screaming for a deal, I’m not surprised. ICANN to vote on new Internet domain names

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is getting ready to vote later this week to open up the Internet naming convention to allow more options. On Thursday at its meeting in Paris, ICANN , the not-for-profit organization charged with overseeing the Internet's naming scheme, will vote on a proposal that would allow companies to purchase new generic top-level domains ending in almost anything they want. So instead of being limited to .com, .org or .co.uk as the last letters of their Web addresses, companies or organizations could add their company name to the end of their URL. For example, eBay could become .ebay or Intel could be .intel. Even cities could name their Web sites .newyork or .berlin. But the new names, which could be ready in 2009, won't come cheap. As a result, it's unlikely that individuals will be able to take advantage of the new naming conventions to create more personalized Web sites. The exact price to register these new names isn't

Siriusly: Lamborghini offering lifetime satellite radio subscriptions

Buy a Lamborghini and be prepared to shell out big bucks... not just for the initial purchase (or the more likely financing arrangement), but for operational costs throughout the lifetime of the vehicle. Even before the warranty runs out, you're looking at big figures for gas, new tires, the inevitable scraped chin spoiler... At least Murcielago buyers have one less upkeep fee to worry about now, as Lamborghini has hammered out a deal with Sirius to provide lifetime subscriptions to its satellite radio service. A couple of obvious questions arise. For one, who would want to listen to the radio when there's a sonorous V12 revving behind your head? Aside from that, however, is the uncertainty over the future of Sirius service with its impending merger with rival service provider XM. We'd like to think that few LP640's will be sitting still long enough to worry about that, though. Source: Autoblog.com

What steps would you take as a manager to ensure fair treatment for older employees?

As a manager, I will check with Human Resource regarding existing policy related to age discrimination or fair treatment for older employees. The employee manual will address this matter and as a Manager, making sure employees are aware and completely understand the consequences. Steps I have in mind that would probably within HR and Legal guidelines: Inform all employees (not just older employees) of their rights and obligations while working with the company. Follow standards of behavior in accordance with Human Resource policy. State clear consequences (penalty) of breaches of policy. Consistent communication and training for employees. We currently employed older employees with their years of customer oriented skill, business experience and strategic decision making. Our work environment is filled with older employees that drive our business. They are mentors and advisors, they give us great feedback to reach our business goal. If you have any suggestion, please share it with us.

YouTube Paying Upfront for Content

When YouTube launched its new indie short film destination The Screening Room earlier this week, we had heard rumors that the video sharing site actually paid creators an upfront fee to license films like Love and War and Our Time is Up for the new section. When asked, YouTube spokesperson Ricardo Reyes told us via email “The economics of our deals are subject to confidentiality provisions, but we are experimenting with a variety of limited promotional sponsorship programs.” In a follow up phone call, Reyes told me that he “can’t confirm but not denying” that YouTube is paying for content for The Screening Room. Additionally, when referencing his earlier email Reyes said that YouTube itself could be considered a “sponsor.” Source: NewTeeVee.com

Sprint to turn up Baltimore WiMAX network in September

Sprint will commercially launch its first WiMAX market in September in Baltimore and turn up service in its two other trial markets, Chicago and Washington, D.C., before the end of the year, said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse during his keynote address at NXTcomm08. The launch is a long time coming as Sprint has pushed back the date throughout the year as it dealt with its troubled finances, operational changes, changes in its executive staff—including Hesse’s replacing former CEO Gary Forsee —and negotiated with fellow WiMAX adopter Clearwire and a myriad of other companies to share the operation and costs of the new network . Sprint first deployed the three networks last year, flipping the switch right before Christmas, but since then Sprint has launched only employee trials. Commercial trials early in the year and a full commercial launch in second quarter failed to materialize. But all of the pieces now appear to be in place to take the wraps off the first market by fall. Source: TelephonyO

Microsoft Buys Navic for TV Ads

Microsoft failed to get Yahoo to increase their online search presence and go head to head with Google. Well, Microsoft move on and acquired Navic networks to extend its ad platform to television. About Navic : Navic's technology is transforming television advertising through sophisticated campaign management tools that use real-time audience measurement data to optimize the delivery and placement of targeted interactive media. Navic's closed-loop solutions are designed to ensure continued campaign success across local or vast geographical areas that span multiple MSO divisions and platforms. In the news: Buying Navic is also a way to keep pace with Google, which is making a push to enter the estimated $80 billion TV ad market. McAndrews said Navic differs from Google's approach by working directly with cable companies versus satellite services, allowing greater targeting and not forcing broadcasters to use an auction. Big TV networks are enthusiastic about .tv

I would like to share this article initiated by michaeldotcom from namepros regarding latest trends in .TV domain extension. --- Start here --- Big TV networks are getting more and more enthusiastic about the .tv extension. They're developing and promoting more .tv sites than ever before. We all know that the value of .tv domains in the future really depends on .tv awareness. The more average Internet users will be aware and used to going to .tv sites, the more type-in traffic .tv domains will get and the more valuable they will become. The need for a well structured, affordable venue, advertising domain names for sale in Australia, has been realised by the creation of the Domain Shed Web site Domainshed . The CEO of Domain Shed, Goran Simunovic, believes the Domain Shed Web site will allow anyone to have insight into the current .au domain name marketplace. World’s First Super Conductor Electric Powered Car From Japan

Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo Electric has done something that has not been done before; they have created an electric car that boosts its performance through the use of liquid nitrogen-cooled super-conduction. The result is greater efficiency and range than regular electric vehicles. So what is the advantage of using super conductors in car engines? At -200C, electrical resistance and current loss are all but eliminated. What that means is that the engine will operate more efficiently and produce greater torque. Sumitomo are claiming that their prototype travels 10% further than conventional electric vehicles on the same battery. Source: Uberreview.com

Hey Microsoft, How ’bout We Do That First Deal You Offered?

The devil is in the details, and the details of the Yahoo-Google search advertising deal reveal the desperate, possibly neurotic state of Yahoo these days. Quite simply, it looks to me like Yahoo is effectively paying Google off to step in and (1) keep Jerry Yang, Sue Decker and the current board of directors in power, and (2) avoid a desperation deal with Microsoft for as long as possible, or longer. It’s not even clear to me that Google wants this deal, based on the terms. It almost looks like they’re just doing Yahoo a favor, and trying to keep them out of Microsoft’s hands. Power Outage in Downtown DC

Not a good friday morning! I've got this message from our Building administration regarding power outage in Downtown DC. All my servers are shutdown. This is the second time for year 2008. Tsk. Pepco reported the failure of a substation located in China Town (7th and H Streets., NW), causing outages in the downtown area. Please be advised power has been restored to the building, though we recommend you monitor critical operations in case of another power grid failure. Also, Metro is reporting delays of over an hour on the Red Line. A small fire on the tracks in the Metro Center area has been put out, but major delays continue. Additionally, at least Dupont Circle, Shaw-Howard U, Farragut North, Farragut West and McPherson Square Metrorail stations have no power. Non-Red Line service is operating normally in those stations, but with low (emergency) lighting. Avoid Metrorail entirely if you were planning to use the Red Line. We will provide further updates as received. Thank you.
